About Safe Haven & Educational Adventures, Inc.

Keila

Keila came to us after having at least 3 other owners. She had come from a house where domestic violence was prevalent, so she verbally repeated the fights. The first several weeks we felt like we were in someone’s living room where someone was about to get beat up. Her words were graphic, threatening and fearful but to her they were only words. She simply repeated what she heard. After over a year’s worth of “therapy” Keila no longer repeats these fights. She is one of our most loved birds by anyone that sees her.

Phoenix

Original owner moved and could not take him with her, so she gave him to some acquaintances. He ended up getting sick and came to us near death from being injured from a horde of rats. After 4 months of recovery the original owners did not want him back. Since then, Pheonix has become an excellent educational opportunity and has been able to learn many behaviors. Pheonix was the original ambassador of Safe Haven. We made sure to encourage the social aspect of Macaws, so we made sure to get Pheonix friends from other surrenders. From a couple friends joined Safe Havens near 300 animal story.

Rainbow

Rainbow came to us from an elderly owner who can no longer take care of him. Rainbow is a hybrid Macaw (Catalina Macaw) that derives from Blue and Gold with a Green Wing Macaw. Rainbows color phase will never be found in the wild, and his coloration is a result of breeding from the animal trade. Rainbow has always been a great education bird and has an attitude that he must be the prettiest being in the room. He does have his favorite people that are able to handle him and then has a few human friends that he allows to be around him. Rainbow is one of our spotlight animals for educational programs due to his wonderful background and coloration.

Charlie

Charlie had been passed around from home to home, at least two of which included young children. A woman with a kind heart was working at a veterinary clinic when the owner at the time simply said that “she was going to get rid of it” because her children were not interested in him. Wanting to be sure Charlie ended up with a good home she took him in. Two years later, she still had not found a private owner that could provide a suitable home, so she donated him to Safe Haven. Charlie is one of our most prolific talkers and will be trained to be used in our educational programs.
